St. Petersburg offers ArchWell Health members a lively, picturesque coastal lifestyle, with accessible parks, engaging art and cultural venues, and a top-rated senior center where you can build wellness, creativity, and social ties.
Start your week at the Sunshine Senior Center, a nationally accredited hub for adults 50 and over. Located at Mirror Lake Park, the center offers low-impact fitness (tai chi, arthritis exercise, Caribbean aerobics), wellness lectures, creative writing, table tennis, arts and crafts, social games, and support services such as Medicare counseling, transportation coordination, and hot meals in a welcoming atmosphere. The first class you take is free.
When nature calls, stroll around Mirror Lake Park, which surrounds the center. Enjoy walking trails along the lake fringed by shaded benches, fountains, and community gathering spots—perfect for relaxed movement or sitting with friends. The historic Shuffleboard Club and Chess Club are also located here for gentle recreation and camaraderie.
Outdoor adventure continues on the Pinellas Trail, a beautifully paved 45-mile rail‑to‑trail corridor that stretches from downtown St. Petersburg through waterfront neighborhoods and parks. It’s ideal for walking, rolling, or joining walking clubs in shaded, scenic surroundings.
Art and culture are at the heart of the city—explore the Morean Arts Center downtown, where older adults can take art workshops, tour the Chihuly glass exhibit and work with clay in the largest pottery studio in the Southeast. The adjacent galleries and gardens are wheelchair-accessible and free on select days.
For history rich in local heritage, visit the Woodson African American Museum, which hosts rotating exhibitions, community talks, and events in an accessible legacy garden setting that honors Black history and resilience.
If you’re looking for flexible indoor fitness and water-based options, YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg offers older adults low-impact classes like yoga, dance, water aerobics, and pickleball, as well as volunteer and outing opportunities to help enhance social and physical wellbeing.
Whether you're enjoying a chair yoga session, walking beside sparkling lakes, participating in a pottery class, or attending a health workshop at the senior center, St. Petersburg supports a wellness-rich, socially connected lifestyle enriched by art, nature, and community.
