Mesa Southern offers ArchWell Health members a relaxed residential setting with access to senior-friendly wellness centers, walkable green spaces, and community programming tailored to older adults. With low-cost services, public transportation routes, and a variety of enrichment opportunities nearby, this part of the East Valley is ideal for staying active, learning something new, and making meaningful connections.
A short drive from Southern Avenue is the Mesa Active Adult Center (247 N. Macdonald), the city’s largest senior-focused facility. Open Monday through Friday, it offers a wide range of free or low-cost programs for adults aged 60+. Members can enjoy daily hot lunches, fitness classes (such as chair yoga and Zumba Gold), arts and crafts workshops, health screenings, brain fitness programs, line dancing, lectures, and computer help. The center also hosts seasonal wellness events, Medicare Q&A sessions, and monthly themed socials.
Closer to Southern Ave, Kleinman Park (710 S Extension Rd) provides a peaceful outdoor space with paved walking paths, shaded seating areas, grassy fields, and covered picnic spots. While modest in size, it’s a pleasant and convenient option for light outdoor movement or fresh-air social time.
The Broadway Recreation Center (59 E Broadway Rd), just south of Mesa Southern, occasionally hosts adult recreation programs and community meetings. While not senior-specific, its multipurpose rooms are used for yoga, dance, community classes, and events accessible to older residents.
Formal cooking classes aren’t typically held in this part of Mesa, but the Active Adult Center regularly features nutrition workshops, seasonal health demos, and healthy-living presentations. These events are often coordinated with local healthcare partners and nonprofits to provide accessible, evidence-based wellness support in a comfortable group setting.
For additional support services, the East Valley Adult Resources network coordinates transportation assistance, caregiver services, enrichment activities, and outreach events throughout the Southern Avenue corridor. Partner agencies like Banner Health and Area Agency on Aging Region One also provide presentations and health screenings nearby.
