Living Life Well In Ferguson

Nestled in north St. Louis County, ArchWell Health’s Ferguson Center serves a community bustling with accessible parks, welcoming local programming, and active wellness opportunities tailored for older adults.

Begin your wellness journey at the Ferguson Community Center at 1050 Smith Avenue. This hub offers cardio and strength training facilities, guided walking and pickleball sessions, outdoor fitness stations, and multipurpose indoor space for games like ping pong and bingo—all available at deeply discounted senior rates. Their 1/3‑mile walking track provides an easy and safe way to stay active regardless of weather. The center also hosts events like Bingo, adult trips, and community gatherings designed for social connection.

Green space abounds in Ferguson’s pleasant public parks. Hudson Park and Lang Royce Park, both around 28 acres, feature paved trails, shaded areas, and open lawns that are ideal for leisurely strolls or casual picnics. January‑Wabash Park, roughly 23 acres, offers level walking paths and a peaceful atmosphere for daily movement.. For smaller neighborhood green pockets and local access, Ferguson maintains 11 parks across its community, offering walking loops, benches, and nature views.

Ferguson’s Aging Ahead Senior Center (at the same Community Center location) is a trusted resource offering congregate meals, exercise classes, educational programs, and social events designed to keep local older adults engaged and nourished.

While dedicated cooking classes in Ferguson are limited, older adults can participate in local adult enrichment cooking programs available in nearby North Kansas City that teach healthy meals with practical kitchen tips and seasonal ingredients. Additionally, Little Kitchen Academy offers Montessori‑inspired cooking workshops specially for older adults—showcasing simple, nutritious recipes in a social setting.

Accessible cultural and community learning is also available at the Ferguson Municipal Public Library, which serves as a calm and resource-rich gathering spot with free computer access, adult programs, book clubs, meeting spaces, tax help, and even health resource outreach—all welcoming older residents.

Watch for the annual Ferguson Community Resource Fair, held at the Community Center in spring—most recently on April 23, 2025. This free event includes health screenings, fitness demos, vendor booths with safety and wellness info, presentations, and social time for adults 55+.

Whether you're walking through leafy parks, staying active at the community center, attending a cooking workshop or joining a social lunch, life in Ferguson offers ArchWell Health members a well-rounded mix of movement, learning, and connection right within their neighborhood.
