Start your day with a refreshing walk through Antelope Park, a scenic green space with paved paths, historic landscaping, tree‑lined walking routes, and shaded benches—ideal for morning strolls or social walking groups. From there, continue to Sunken Gardens, a peaceful flower-filled area perfect for photography, sensory strolls, or enjoying quiet beauty. Older Adults often visit both within the same outing.
In the afternoon, explore the Haymarket District—a historic downtown neighborhood home to boutique shops, art galleries, farmers’ markets, and outdoor seating. It’s especially popular with older adults on market days for its vibrant yet walkable character.
For structured wellness and community programs, Aging Partners runs multiple senior centers across Lincoln, including Belmont Senior Center (Havelock area, 1234 Judson St), Northeast Senior Center (6310 Platte Ave), Downtown Senior Center (1005 O St), Washington Street Senior Center, and Victory Park Senior Center. These hubs provide chair exercise, Tai Chi, creative arts, bingo, congregate meals, computer classes, health workshops, volunteer opportunities, and outings. Membership is low cost, and many centers offer transportation service within designated city areas.
Cultural enrichment and learning are available at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, offering classes and field trips for adults 50+ on topics like history, art, nature, and wellness. Older Adults may also enjoy performances at the Lied Center or visit the Nebraska History Museum in downtown.
Aging Partners, the city’s area agency on aging, coordinates programming across facilities, provides resources like benefits counseling, home-delivered meals, and transportation, and distributes a monthly newsletter My Center News outlining events and meal menus.
