Building better care: How Dr. Jani helps shape the member experience

When Dr. Jaydev Jani joined ArchWell Health in January 2022 as Market Medical Director for Charlotte, North Carolina, hewasn't stepping into a well-established organization. He joined the company in its early stages of growth and became one of the first physician leaders helping shape what ArchWell Health would become.

He was attracted to the opportunity to practice medicine differently.

"The model of care and ability to devote time and resources to our members makes such a huge difference," Dr. Jani said. "It enhances trust and creates opportunities for the healthcare team to make a meaningful impact."

As one of ArchWell Health's first Market Medical Directors, Dr. Jani quickly took on work that went well past his local market. Alongside fellow physician leaders and Dr. Goddard, he helped establish many of the clinical standards and care guidelines that continue to guide the organization today.

"We were instrumental in developing clinical protocols, establishing standards of care, and building a culture of clinical excellence," he said.

During his time leading the Charlotte market, Dr. Jani helped bring ArchWell Health's value-based care model to life, ensuring physicians and care teams had the resources needed to build meaningful relationships with members and deliver proactive, preventive care.

As the organization expanded, so did his opportunities to make an impact. In addition to his work in Charlotte, Dr. Jani stepped into a larger leadership role as Interim Market Medical Director for Birmingham, Alabama. Supporting a second market gave him a broader perspective on the challenges and opportunities of scaling excellent care across a growing organization.

Each step prepared him for his next chapter.

In November 2023, Dr. Jani transitioned into his current role as Senior Medical Director of Utilization Management, moving from market leadership to an enterprise-wide position focused on improving care for members across ArchWell Health.

The move represented more than a promotion. It provided an opportunity to influence how care is delivered throughout the organization.

"Transitioning into this role allowed me to contribute at an enterprise level and help bring our mission to life through initiatives that make a visible difference for the members we serve," he said.

In partnership with colleagues across the organization, Dr. Jani helped establish and scale ArchWell Health's utilization management and care management functions. Together, they built programs designed to ensure members receive the right care at the right time while maintaining a relentless focus on quality outcomes.

He is most proud of risk-based visit frequency programs, interdisciplinary team rounds for some of ArchWell Health's highest-risk members, and chronic disease management strategies that support members with complex health needs.

While these initiatives often happen behind the scenes, members feel their impact every day.

"The work has created a fabric of healthcare services where members can feel confident that their healthcare team is their biggest advocate," he said. "Our goal is to do everything possible to help them stay healthy in their own environment."

Throughout his journey, Dr. Jani has remained motivated by ArchWell Health's commitment to delivering exceptional care for every member and creating opportunities for colleagues to grow.

He also credits much of his development to Dr. Goddard's mentorship and support.

"He has been a mentor and has supported me every step of the way," Dr. Jani said. "I owe much of our success to his vision and leadership."

Today, Dr. Jani's career reflects ArchWell Health's evolution. From helping establish clinical standards as one of the organization's first Market Medical Directors, to leading care in Charlotte, supporting growth in Birmingham, and now guiding enterprise-wide utilization management initiatives, his impact has grown alongside the company.

When asked what advice he would give someone just beginning their career at ArchWell Health, he points back to the same principle that guided his own journey.

"If you are committed to the principles of value-based care and exemplify them in your work, this organization will provide growth opportunities," he said. "More importantly, you'll experience the satisfaction that comes from making a meaningful difference in the lives of the members you serve."
